River Conditions Update

The channel at UM002 is open to one way traffic and tows are restricted to no more
than 15 barges north bound and a 12 barge maximum for all south bound traffic. The
restriction will remain in effect until the sunken barge is raised.
The channel at UM420 will be closed until dredging is complete on Thursday or Friday
August 28 or 29, 2008. Expect delays.
Lock 27 at UM185.1 (main chamber) will be closed for repairs from 0700 on 8-22-08
through 1800 on 8-28-08. Auxiliary chamber will be available and a helper boat will be
provided. Delays are expected, time of delay will depend on volume of traffic.
Tropical storm Gustav, currently in the Dominican Republic, is projected to make
landfall in the Gulf Coast area by early next week. We are monitoring conditions and
will advise of any potential delays as more information becomes available.
Intermittent closures are scheduled at LM651 near Friar Point from 0600-1800 until
September 15, 2008 for underwater weir construction.
The river is open to commercial traffic in the New Orleans area however, a safety
zone restriction is still in effect from LM97 southbound to LM40 until further notice.
The Inner Harbor Navigational Canal Lock 60-Day closure began on Monday, August
11, at 0700 hours. The lock will be closed to all marine traffic for an estimated 60 days
to complete major repairs and total dewatering.
Old River Lock at LM304 will be closed for 30-45 days for maintenance beginning
Monday, October 20, 2008.
Meldahl Lock, (OR436), will close the main lock 07/28/08 thru 10/17/08. Minor delays
expected.
R.C.Byrd Lock, (OR279), will close the main lock 10/27/08 thru 11/28/08.
Cheatham Lock at CR148.7 will be closed due to dewatering inspection and repair from
August 18, 2008 through September 9, 2008. This is a single chamber with no auxiliary
chamber available. Major delays are expected.
Green River Lock#1 (GR 9) will close for maintenance on August 9, 2008 and remain
closed until September 5, 2008. As this is a single chamber facility, no traffic will be
able to pass during the closure.
Dashields Lock (main chamber) at OR13.3 will be closed for repair November 10-14,
2008. The auxiliary chamber will be closed for repairs November 15-21, 2008. Expect
delays during the repair period.

Pickwick Lock, (TR206.7), will close 07/08/08 thru 07/29/08, main chamber.
LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER AREA
Port Allen Lock (LM228.4), will close 8/01/08 thru 09/15/08. POSTPONED UNTIL 2009
Industrial Canal Lock (LM92.6), will be closed for dewatering beginning August 1,
2008 for approximately 60 days.
